With technologies come biases. While many cultures have been open minded towards the tools that they adopt, there often is little consideration of the long-term impact technologies have on societies’ culture and well-being. Considering the work of Neil Postman, Douglas Rushkoff, and others, we need to identify how the culture-shaping impact of these technologies can be considered in the development of curriculum going out to youth and resources going to adults. There is great headway with the youth coding initiatives but we need to think beyond the economic/job impact and think of how we can raise well-rounded individuals that are able to put themselves before their tools.
