Massive amounts of new 21st century wealth has been created places like Silicon Valley and elsewhere where digital technologies have taken hold. Much of this wealth has fallen into the hands of individuals much younger than their forbearers who have yet to recognize their philanthropic identity or mission. At the same time long standing philanthropic institutions, many created from 20th century wealth, struggle to understand how to recognize, invest, and measure digitally designed social benefit initiatives and the entrepreneurs who create them. We need new mechanisms that draw funding from the newly rich and bring them together with the experience of existing philanthropic community to invest in a new generation of digitally inspired social change agents, projects, and platforms.
