From Benjamin Abrams
It has become commonplace to see our systems of representative government create laws and polices explicitly in the interests of large corporations while simultaneously trampling on the interests and rights of the majority of citizens. A Princeton study confirmed what Americans know intuitively - that they have virtually no influence on the workings of their governments. Today there is potential to create an electronic democracy system that could help shift some power back to the people. The e-democracy system must be easy and fun to use, secure while verifying one person = one vote. It should also be flexible to allow people to participate with varying time commitments by allowing them to delegate their vote on a set of issues to a proxy whose opinions they trust. This system could also serve as a needed forum for debate and communication about political topics. Currently much of this communication happens through Facebook which controls the flow of messages in an opaque way.
