Closing of feedback loops remains a significant challenge in giving a good outcome to the energy and capabilities that the Internet and mobile phones have brought to the people. Online tools and platforms have empowered citizens to express themselves, report on governments, and essentially put in crucial checks and balances to strengthen the overall democratic system. However, holding governments accountable to respond to the data, make use of the data in rectifying policy, and analyze the gaps identified to build better processes, is most often a hit-and-miss affair. Laws similar to the Freedom of Information/Right to Information are required, which mandate the authorities to respond to questions being asked of them based on hard data.
